Is Your Faith Real

At one point, James seems to contradict Paul's teaching that "grace is by faith alone". James tells us that "Faith without works is dead". Which is correct?? What if I were to say both? Paul is correct in his statement that grace is through faith, but when James tells us that works are part of salvation, what does he mean? Good works do not create faith; they come from faith. If your faith is only for show, it will be evident from your "works"; the way you treat people, the way you talk, your actions under pressure, who you are when life gets tough. Faith without resulting good works is like a nice car without an engine; it looks good from the outside but in reality is worthless. Are you a nice-looking car without an engine?
